I’m a bit behind on blogging as I took Thursday ‘off’ to indulge in my love of natural history at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It’s a huge museum and we arrived at 11am and stayed till closing at 5pm which says quite a lot in itself. The museum is fully accessible which made for an easier, more relaxed day. There were also more dinosaurs to see which is a common theme here in Colorado, something I am determined to make the most of as a fully declared dino-nerd! This museum is the best I think I have ever visited with hundreds of dioramas depicting various natural scenes and informative interactive exhibits that help you truly appreciate the natural world. A must-see for anyone visiting Colorado.

Friday we drove just over an hour South to Colorado Springs. We are staying a Glen Eyrie Castle which sits in the shadow of the Garden of the Gods Park. The accommodation is lovely and sits in beautiful scenic grounds. It’s great to get away from the hustle and bustle this week and explore more of the accessible outdoor trails that lie all over the park area. It’s early season here so it’s quieter than usual which means we can truly explore at our own pace.
Whilst we have had a good look around, the weather has been iffy this weekend so we plan to save our hiking for the (supposed) sunny days to come. There are a few local outdoor attractions we plan to check out in the coming days.

I am rapidly approaching my halfway point in this adventure and trying to pull together some key observations for tomorrow’s blog. I’m also glad of some self-led down days before our final flight to LA as I’m feeling a bit more fatigued from all the moving around and relative unknowns. When people dream of travel, it’s always the destination we focus on but the getting there is often 90% of the experience. We often discuss whether the travel is ‘worth it’, I think this is a shame as it can take away from the little moments. Travelling is hard, regardless of where you’re going, but hardest of all is staying in the moment and appreciating the contrasts and similarities of each place.
Colorado has been my favourite location so far, not just because of its many accessible adventures, but because it has been less mentally taxing. Everything here has been a little bit easier, this could be because we are settling into the customs of the US, but I think the people here are more like those at home, giving a sense of familiarity.
